Like other books by the same publisher this book has a quick blurb about a location and then one or two photographs to accompany the story. This book took a look at several places in China I had neither seen nor heard of before. It was a good mix of standard Chinese tourist locations along with some that are off the beaten path. One problem with this book, which has nothing to do with how it was written, is that the names of many of the places were difficult to decipher. If you are using this book as a read aloud you may need to brush up on your Chinese pronunciation as some of these were humdingers. All in all this is a fairly enjoyable book for someone wanting to learn more about important places in China. It isn't too detailed or in depth but it gives the reader a good sense of what one may see upon visiting China.I was offered this book at a discounted rate in exchange for an honest review.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.places such as the Teracotta Army and The Great Wall are included as some of the most popular ...By Customerpeedy Publishing has recently given me the opportunity to review a large number of the Baby Professor series books for free in exchange for leaving honest reviews. I have received books in all subjects: science, history, and geography. Their geography series books range from young children (I would say pre-K or kindergarten age) well through a fourth grade reading level. The Let’s Explore series takes a country or region and shows students several national landmarks that can be found there. In the China book, places such as the Teracotta Army and The Great Wall are included as some of the most popular tourist destinations. Each landmark includes a short description of what can be done there and why it has become so popular. For my students (second and third graders), we talk about each landmark and discuss if we have been somewhere similar or seen things similar in our own communities or travels. A few of my students will have been to a particular landmark and they are always BURSTING to share their experiences. The photographs in the book are always of exceptional quality. We zoom in to the buildings and talk about the architecture and the design. We talk about the communities or the landscapes (whether the photo is of a city or a national park, etc) We ask students to read aloud the descriptions and then define words we don’t understand. I love how these books really fuel classroom discussions. With my own children (almost three and almost four), we look at the pictures and talk about the different colors of the trees and plants or how tall and pretty the buildings are. We identify letters and sight words and sound out some larger words we don’t’ know. The books last about 10 to 15 minutes so they get two books at bed time.Overall, I really like the Baby Professor books and how they leave enough to build discussion off of and allow students to really acknowledge other cultures and regionLet’s explore China (most famous attractions in China.) This book is a great tourist guide for elementary aged children. It is short at only 18 pages long, but that is good for younger children. The pictures are high quality and the descriptions of the places this book has us visit are written at about a first or second grade reading level. This book only spends a page on most of the places that it has us visit. Most of the places in this book are places that I had never heard of before. Warning this review contains spoilers. China is a large country that has quite the variety of sites to visit. Our tour of China starts off in Shanghai, with a picture of the Bund. Next we learn about the giant panda bear. The best place to see them is Chengdu. Not all species of pandas are classified as bears. Now we visit Baihai Park. We learn that this is one of China’s largest parks, and there are many important historic buildings here. We then get to see the Terracotta Army. This is a relatively new tourist stop it was only discovered about 40 years ago. Next we see Elephant Trunk Hill a landmark in Guilin China. Next we visit the Huangshan mountain range. This is located in eastern China. The pictures are breath taking and beautiful. We visit the Potala Palace. This is a world heritage site and was the main residence of the Dalai Lama. Next we stop by Jiuzhaigou a nature reserve located in a remote part of the Sichuan province. Now we learn about the Forbidden City within Beijing. This city has served as the home to China’s emperors for hundreds of years. Off we go to visit Yuyuan Garden, and the Temple to Heaven. Finally what trip to China is complete without a visiting the Great Wall of China I think this is the perfect way to end this book. If you found my review to be helpful please click yes. However at the time of my review the kindle version is free to everyone.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.I love to travelBy Rek JavicI love to travel. My classroom is filled with postcards from all over the world and books to encourage and promote diversity. Students in my class come from all different countries and I think it's important for us to embrace that as well as the cultures of China. We recently learned about Chinese New Years.Though some students have traveled outside the country, many of my students have not even left the state. I think it's important for them at a young age to become aware of all the places that they can visit in their lifetime. One way to promote a sense of adventure, curiosity and love of learning is to introduce such texts that encourage students to learn more about the places that they live and would like to visit in the near future. I think that it's important to have students read informational texts. As adults, we are bombarded with nonfiction. We constantly read reviews, read the news, watch the weather, read bills and all other non fiction modes of texts that we are required to synthesize, interpret and relate to our real life situations. This book can be the first step in exposing students to real life /nonfictional texts.I like this book about Exploring China. I love to travel and I think this is a good introduction for children to learn about the world. Lately, I have ordered a significant amount of Baby Professor Books in exchange for providing honest reviews of their products. I am an elementary teacher and also an aunt. I am constantly looking for books that will grasp the attention of my students and beloved relatives.I like to use in my kindle in whole group and small group discussions. Occasionally, I let my students work together and read their books electronically. I like them to learn at their own pace and gravitate towards books that grasp their attention as learners.I think the Baby Professor books are encouraging students to explore their interests throughout their learning journey. I have reviewed baby professor books of different subjects such as history and science and geography.. What each book does is provide information, allowing students and teachers to create environments of learning. It also provides colored photos . We discuss the topics and then write down questions that we have which we would still like to explore.Baby Professor books leave students with information and photos which can spark their interests. I look forward to reading more of their books in my class and am glad I was able to add these to my classroom library.See all 79 customer reviews...
