A great book. Found it on the free list and liked the sound of it so thought it would be worth downloading. It was more than just an acceptable read I could not put it down and am awaiting the next installment.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful.Surprised it was written by a womanBy marygbakerThe main story is well told: young male hero battling an evil spirit. So long as there is an interesting evil spirit (and there is) we're good to go with this genre. The author also provides a sense of atmosphere that makes for interesting reading. But I really did not enjoy the love story and this turned the book more irritating than pleasant. The heroine looks like a Barbie doll, has expensive degrees, and hangs out on the res (virginity intact) waiting for the hero. She doesn't seem to mind ending up back in the 1800's Southwest Barbie Dreamhouse either. The hero seems to love her because she is pretty.Had less time been devoted to this romantic subplot the story would have had better flow. Conversely, had the characters been given more psychological depth the story would have been more interesting. The confusion over whether the characters are the embodiment of legendary heroic beings or are real people spoiled the book for me.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful.CaptivatedBy Terrie McClayKyle Ghostkiller, a decendent of the Dakota 38 who were hung in 1862 after the Sioux Uprising, journeys into the past to break a curse that has haunted the small Minnesota town of Moccasin Flats since the day of the hanging.I first read Scattered Leaves when it was published in 2011. It was such a fantastic read that I was compelled to read it again. Ms. Prince is a wonderful storyteller, weaving her characters through a web of history, romance, and fantasy that captivated me from the first page to the last. Two thumbs up. I am anxiously waiting for the sequel.Terrie McClayAuthor of Wind in the Grasses DancingSee all 99 customer reviews...
