Each photograph is accompanied by a background description and the specifics of what is in the photograph. For the student of WWII history it is a valuable work. The casual student would also find it a very good "read". I highly recommed anything by Mr. Zaloga and am quite happy with my purchase of this volume.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful.OUTSTANDING! BUY THIS ONE, NO REGRETS!By NachtjagerZaloga' three books centered on the M4 are magnificent and this third volume is exhaustive in the number of photos (almost all of which have never been published before). This is a sequel to his 1944 book and consists of hundreds of photos with EXTREMELY detailed captions. I cannot imagine how long it took to assemble this collection of photos or how long it took to compile the data accompanying them. This book contains a lot of photos of extremely rare German armor as well, so it's cheap at twice the price. STRONGLY recommend this one, as well as Steven Zaloga's previous two books. These make a superb three-volume set and will instantly make you an expert on armored warfare in Europe during WWII. This is an up-close-and-personal look at the vehicles, places, and the soldiers - it is not a dry history book filled with maps and loads of text, which some people have complained about, but it is absolutely fascinating. I've looked at this book for hours on end and I never fail to notice something new and fascinating in the photos. GREAT BOOK!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.Needed more textBy Dan PriceExcellently illustrated book but I wish it had more text. While reading the captions does give a flow of how the action went, I still wish more meat had been provided. So many of the captions just tell you what you can already see, that a tank was "knocked out."Just too many "knocked outs" and that's why I didn't give it five stars.See all 33 customer reviews...
