I loved the introduction to the heroine, Mia.Mia is half Fae. As such, she was imprisoned and tortured by the full-blooded Fae. But Mia was able to escape her captors and now lives a warrior's life with the aid of her mysterious companion Bakis. Bakis is an inscrutable Greek Oracle in feline form. A fighter, Mia is constantly battling evil. This time her cat companion leads her into the middle of a fight. Where vampires are protecting humans from some very nasty creatures! Soon Mia finds herself helping them. But the vampires disturb her, especially the relationship between a beautiful Fae and her vampire husband. Mia has never fully trusted vampires and a relationship between them and Fae is inconceivable. When she tries to leave by transporting herself away, she inadvertently takes one of the vampires with her. The sexy Irish vampire named Roddie soon plays havoc with her heart. Mia begins to question her own beliefs. As they fight to stay alive they soon find themselves falling in love. But for a woman that has only known pain and sorrow. Will she be able to open her heart to a bloody vampireMia is a true warrior with a fascinating past. The author's vivid imagination makes this series one to watch out for. The only difficulty for me is that story seems to jump around so it seems a bit abrupt and jarring in certain areas. It would have been nice to have slower transitions and more explanation of certain characters. I enjoyed the relationship between the heroine and Roddie, the sexy vampire. They are fun to read and I liked that they challenged each other. Roddie makes Mia feel feminine and desirable for the first time. Mia is tough and new to love so it was interesting to read how she lets her softer side out. The other cast of vampires are also intriguing. I would like to know more about.The most fascinating part of the story was the mysterious `feline' known as Bakis who knows way more than he lets on. I would be really interested to know about this character and his origins.Compelling with some fascinating characters. This book will pull you in and get you looking for more books in the hopefully continuing series!Reviewed by Steph from the Bookaholics Romance Book Club1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Great Main CharactersBy A Book Obsession..Mia, the only surviving half-breed between the light and dark Fae. She has had assassins on her tail for centuries and has never trusted anyone. When she meets a group of vampires in a resistance against ones who would see their way of life destroyed, she is intrigued by their group dynamic as it something she's never experienced. Then one of the group members, Roddie, takes a interest in her and she is almost helpless to resist. It becomes a battle between her heart and her head, with neither having a clear lead. Her instincts have kept her alive all this time, but what is life really worth without loveMia is one heck of a damaged character. Considering her past, this comes at no surprise. What amazes me is her strength and ability to survive against all odds. Her instincts are incredible, but it is because of those instincts that she has no friends nor understanding of companionship and love. What I loved most about this book was getting to see Mia grow and learn to accept others being close to her. I think she will have a greater appreciation for those relationships as she went so long without them, and she knows just how miserable and lonely that is. At one point in the book she seems to be almost amazed at her feelings, as she never really understood what she was missing before Roddie and the others came into her life.I absolutely loved the dynamic between Roddie and Mia. Despite her being so "flighty" and skittish, Roddie falls almost instantly head over heels for Mia. Mia on the other hand, kept him at arms length for a very long time. I'll admit the slow progression on her side was a little frustrating as I was reading it because I knew the two would have great potential, and I couldn't wait for them to finally make some progress. However, despite that frustration, the slow progression made the romance more realistic as someone with her past would have a very hard time accepting feelings for another person, let alone even beginning to trust.I really enjoyed this book. The setting is parallel to the world in her other novel, Stealing Time (Review). The same style and happy progression of romance found in Stealing Time, follows this book as well. There were plenty of tender moments as well as some pretty steamy ones, and she did an excellent job in balancing those two aspects. This author is definitely one to watch for as her books are very rich and leave you with a sense of happiness, yet still manage to leave things open ended enough to make you more than ready for the next book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys flawed, but strong heroines, sexy heroes, and romantic happiness with plenty of danger in between. This book was a perfect blend of those aspects and I cannot wait to dive into the next book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.ShadowplayBy Lisa FSet in the same world as Stealing Time, but a seperate series Shadowplay is an action packed paranormal romance centering around a dark Fae named Mia. Mia is a half breed- half dark and half light Fae. Her father also happens to be the ruler of the Unseelie Court- and he doesn't have any kind of paternal feelings for his only surviving daughter.She spends most of her time avoiding the Unseelie assassins sent by her father to kill her. When she finds herself accidentally caught up in a war between Vampires she doesn't imagine for a minute that she would find friends, or love. But she soon finds herself entangled with Roddie, a vampire who is determined to show Mia that there is more to life than pain and simply surviving.There are plenty of fight scenes interspersed with the developing romance between vampire and Fae to keep things moving along at a comfortable pace, and by the end of the book, friendship and love are not the only things that Mia has gained that she thought impossible before.....Another excellent story from a new author that I hope to see much more from in the future.See all 3 customer reviews...
