I love knitting and Hallmark movies (which is where I first heard of Debbie Macomber), so I was expecting a sweet, clean story. Instead I found unlikeable characters that were extreme stereotypes (the goth girl who has a criminal past, the rich neglected housewife who judges everyone, etc). Along with the poor character and story development, there was already too much sex for the amount of pages I read. All of the cheesy predictability of a Hallmark romance, with none of the likable characters or sweet innocence.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.Wish I'd Have Discovered Ms. Macomber SoonerBy Whidbey MaryI'm new to Debbie Macomber - wish I'd have found her sooner. This is the first book of hers I've read and I intend to read this entire series.I don't usually read cozies because many seem poorly thought out, written by people with little or no writing skills, or have uninteresting characters. None of these apply to Ms. Macomber. She develops her characters very quickly yet they have depth and I'm interested in them and want to know what has happened and will happen to them. This Blossom Street series revolves around a woman, Lydia, who has beat cancer twice and decided to open a knitting shop in Seattle. Though the author must explain the cancer and its impact on Lydia's life, dreams, fears, and family strain it isn't overly sappy. Ms. Macomber does not fall back on the cancer to further the storyline. I can see why she is such a well liked best selling author. Once I finish this series I look forward to her other novels.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.God can work wonders when you let Him.By Gail McBrayerWhat a great book. One lead character, 3 others intertwined. It is the stories of the store owned and her 3 students in her first knitting class. All the characters and the conflicts in their lives are so well developed that you feel like you know them. It is very inspirational without preaching to the reader. And at the start you'd better not judge the book by the cover as God works in their lives. At the end we see His plan, and that it is best to let Him work His way not try to tell Him how to do things. It was a great joy to read.See all 464 customer reviews...
